On their latest album, вЂњWALLS,вЂќ the three Followill brothers and their cousin, lead guitarist Matthew Followill, finally deliver an effort worthy of вЂњOnly by the Night.вЂќ However, itвЂ™s still not quite up to the standards of their 2007 masterpiece, вЂњBecause of the Times,вЂќ which immediately preceded the bandвЂ™s mainstream success. The bandвЂ™s 20 efforts, вЂњCome Around SundownвЂќ and вЂњMechanical Bull,вЂќ were ambitious efforts, chasing after that mix of grittiness and accessibility that scored the band's hits with songs like вЂњSex on FireвЂќ and вЂњUse Somebody.вЂќ Ultimately, though, they came up short on both as they tossed out plenty of hooks but failed to reel anything in. Ever since the 2008 breakthrough album вЂњOnly by the Night,вЂќ Kings of Leon have been trying to replicate its success.
